How do I clear my Mozilla Firefox browser history?

As you browse the Internet, most web page data is cached locally on your computer to help pages load faster and reduces the amount of data you need to transfer over your Internet connection.
To help keep your browsing history private, and to free up disk space on your computer, you can clear your local browsing history. Select your Internet browser from the following list to get started.

Note: Once the history is deleted on your computer, you will not be able to recover it.

There are several ways to view and edit your history in Firefox:
  • View Firefox history
  • Clear Firefox history

To view your browsing history in Firefox:
  •  If you do not have a custom homepage set, you can click the view history, saved bookmarks, and more button in any browsing window. You may also press Ctrl+H.

  • Or you can always view your browsing history in the History sidebar. Open it by pressing Alt to show the menu bar, then choosing View → Sidebar → History.

Enter the Site URL with the HTTP Protocol

A simple fix that may work is to open the website with HTTP instead. All that’s required is to the replace https:// at the beginning of the URL with http://. Open a blank tab and then input the website’s URL again starting with http:// instead.

 Open Firefox in Safe Mode

Firefox, like Windows, has a Safe Mode you can open the browser in. This can help fix various Mozilla Firefox browser errors, including the “ssl_error_rx_record_too_long” error. Safe Mode will temporarily switch off your add-ons and hardware acceleration and revert Firefox to its default theme. Like this, you might be able to open a website that wasn’t otherwise opening in Firefox.
  1. First, click Open menu and select Help.
  2. Then, you can select the Restart with Add-ons Disabled option.
  3. Press the Restart button to confirm the selected option.
  4. Press the Start in Safe Mode button.
  5. Now try to connect to the website again.

Mozilla Firefox Other Bookmarks vs Bookmark Menu

How can I avoid this issue and change the default from "Other Bookmarks" back to "Bookmark Menu"?

Since Mozilla forced another unasked for "improvement" down user's throats, new bookmarks are now stored in Other Bookmarks by default.

This has turned out to be a massive nuisance if you add a new bookmark and forget to also click to change to store Bookmark Menu. You will not find your bookmark again for a while. And as if that were not stupid enough, it is a real insult if you also want to use that new Bookmark in a New Folder, as there is no way to place that new folder in the Bookmark Menu.
Follow these simple steps to resolve your query:

Allows you to choose the default bookmark location folder and quickly bookmark pages  via a dedicated icon.

Features

Firefox built-in bookmarking:

This feature only affect bookmarks added through the built-in Firefox bookmark icon or shortcut (Ctrl+D), or through the context menu.

You can:

  • Select where the new bookmarks will be added
  • Choose to add the new bookmarks to the top or the bottom of the selected folder
  • Select where the new folders of "Bookmark All Tabs..." will be added
  • Choose to add the new "Bookmark All Tabs..." folders to the top or the bottom of the selected folder

Quick bookmark icon:
This feature will add a quick bookmark icon in the address bar, to (un)bookmark a page with only one click.
The icon is a round star icon in the address bar.
If the current page is bookmarked, the icon color will change to red.

You can:

  • Enable the quick bookmark shortcut (Alt+Shift+D)
  • Select where the new bookmarks will be added
  • Choose to add the new bookmarks to the top or the bottom of the selected folder
  • Choose to show the page as bookmarked (i.e. the icon color changes) if the bookmark is in the folder you selected
  • Select the color of the quick bookmark icon (among a list) when the current page is bookmarked (red by default)
